Portico works best when each library points to folders that hold one kind of media. Keep movies, TV shows, music, anime and audiobooks in separate folders. Keep DVR recordings separate too; Portico manages them through Channels → Recordings rather than the add-library dialog.

Use stable paths

Move or rename folders before you add them to Portico. A library path should still be there after the server restarts, and it shouldn’t depend on someone being signed in.

Keep unrelated files out

Don’t point a library at a general downloads folder. Sample files, incomplete transfers, disk images and unrelated documents slow scanning down and make matching less reliable.

Check permissions

The Portico service account needs read access to every folder in the path. If your media is on network storage, test access as the service, not only from your own desktop account.

Next steps

Name your files so Portico can match them: Name movie files, Name TV episodes and Organize music. Then Create a library.
